Every Black woman on my feeds is throwing up either #Scandal or #Empire. I’ve already reviewed Scandal - Grey’s Anatomy turned to politics. I guess Kerry Washington’s bourgie character wasn’t good enough for the hood. Enter Cookie, Taraji Henson’s ex-con baby-mama ex-wife Empire character and her story of getting what she’s owed regardless of the hatin’ ass Black men in her way (her ex-husband and three sons). Lucius Lyons is Terence Howard’s husband rap mogul green-eyed good-hair main character trying to decide which son will inherit his music…

  • Glee Series Finale Recap "2009" and "Dreams Come True"

I can still remember the first time that I watched Glee. It was back in 2009 and they had a special premiere of the pilot episode a couple of months before the show actually began. I vividly remember thinking that it was good. I didn’t connect to it completely at first and I think that’s because the songs in the premiere were short auditions and the characters and writing were so in your face. That is until those final few minutes when the opening notes for “Don’t Stop Believing” began and the first real group auditorium number took place. After that, I was sold. I told…
  • Everything Wrong with Glee: Crimes against Music(als)

I have a confession to make: over half the songs on my iPod are Glee covers. Some of their performances are, admittedly, phenomenal. A lot of their mashups have ruined the original songs for me because now listening to them separately feels incomplete. At some point, the producers realized that more songs = more money, so they started cranking out show tunes and classic rock like baked goods at a PTA fundraiser. In musicals, however, timing is everything, so even spectacular numbers (like the entire setlist of the Rocky Horror episode) ultimately hurt the show by encouraging the writers to…

*Spoiler alert! If you’ve yet to see the 6th season of Glee, stay away! * Last Friday, an era ended. The TV show Glee aired its last episode. It has managed in its 6 years run to capture the heart of millions of people, me included. I stayed up until late at night to watch the last two episodes last Friday. Tissues and tears were shed and I felt relieved that I had seen the end of it. I was glad that the show had not been cancelled before. I was glad that the show ended on such a high note. I didn’t follow Glee from its early days. One episode here and there when they happened to…
  • Why The Series Finale of Glee Is Secretly Horrifying

Before you go any further, be aware that there are many, many spoilers in this post. In fact, it’s pretty much all spoilers. I can only assume as the episode aired a couple of days ago that you will already have watched it any way. But if you haven’t, and don’t want to know that Rachel marries Jessie or that Will becomes the new school principle, don’t read this post, yeah? Glee has finally ended. After six seasons, one actor death, and more musical numbers than you can shake a pink sparkly wand at, it’s finally over. I will confess that I skipped the last two…
